It's Been A Great 10 Years!
JBOSC Contract Comes to A Close
The 10-year Space Gateway Support/Joint Base Operations and Support Contract (JBOSC) will end on September 30, 2008. It is with sadness, but a definite sense of accomplishment, that The Gateway News bids farewell to our loyal readers, in this, our final issue. We congratulate our employees on their accomplishments, commend them for their dedication and hard work, and thank them for an outstanding job and successful conclusion to the contract. It's been a tremendous 10 years at the world's premier Spaceport! Thanks for the memories!

Team Ensures Air Force Station is Hurricane-Ready
JBOSC Emergency Preparedness Team Springs Into Action
Two hurricane readiness exercises were recently held at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS). The first exercise focused on preparing CCAFS and the 45th Space Wing for an impending hurricane. The second exercise focused on post-hurricane recovery. Both exercises were coordinated by the JBOSC Emergency Preparedness Team. "The End of Exercise analysis revealed that the team was well prepared and responsive to the needs of the 45th SW and the CCAFS community," noted Ned Scheerhorn, SGS Emergency Management Analyst. Excellent job, team!

  Spaceport Engineers Seek Cost Savings
Efficiency Ideas Benefit the Spaceport
It's all about conserving energy. The group of Spaceport engineers pictured at left traveled to Orlando in June to attend a General Electric (GE) Customer Lighting Conference in search of cost saving ideas to benefit the Spaceport. GE instructors discussed the latest lighting technology and how to specify the right product for each application. According to Kevin Riley, SGS Energy Management, "Those attending were quite an assortment, representing both government and contract employees. Reducing electricity consumption at the Spaceport is everyone's goal...saving energy is saving money."
